How do we know this is Arnolfini? Is there evidence other than the famous portrait with the woman in the National Gallery, London?

I believe it is Giovanni Arnolfini, look closely at the distinctive nose, mouth and pointed chin. Very similar to the Arnolfini Portrait.

Can anyone tell me what is in his hand? I've searched and could not find an answer.
